Decorative Patterns of the Nubian Plate as an Approach to Enrich the Weaving Hangouts

Abstract

Weaving  is a creative art of   multiple plastic potentialities  that renew  permanently technically and artistically with richness. Nubian folklore expresses the Nubian origins and the living experience of a society, where the national characteristics of this society, represent a spontaneous expression of nature. Nubian forms reflect the prevailing plastic or functional aesthetics that characterize objects ​​ of Nubian civilization in periods of history. Nubian plates are characterized with authentic features. These plates are made from palm fronds by trained girls in workshops; with excellence and uniqueness, as if they were machine made. All of these plates are decorated with geometric or pyramid ornaments in different colors that tend to be garish, inspired by the local environment. The aim of the current research was to study the decorating patterns and styles of the Nubian plate to be utilized in the creation of new design approaches that enrich the forms and aesthetics of weaving hangouts apart from the traditional limitations. The current research is significant for emphasizing preserving the Nubian heritage from extinction by reshaping and implementing its elements in manual weaving. The Evaluation Checklist of the weaving hangouts products was submitted to jurors of the staff at the Faculty of Specific Education, Department of Art Education, Kafrelsheikh University. The current research adopted a quasi-experimental design. The research resulted in the creation of weaving hangouts with a contemporary stylish design, utilizing the decorative patterns of the Nubian plate.
