Abstract

he research deals with the concept of magical realist philosophy as one of the styles of the realist school to extract the distinctive characteristics and features of that school, which linked the realistic side of events with the imaginative side (fantasy) in order to develop the plastic and imaginative awareness of art students. The study aimed to use these characteristics and features to form contemporary sculptures with a magical realistic character. The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach for the theoretical framework and the experimental approach for the practical framework. The research sample included a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Art Education - Faculty of Specific Education - Menoufia University, and they numbered (10) male and female students. The study found that art students were influenced in shaping their sculptures by the ancient Egyptian, and developed their plastic awareness by linking their sculptural works between the realistic side and the imaginative side, which is represented in forming works in the form of a human being linked to animals at times, and a human being linked to plants at other times. The study also recommended further research into the philosophical contents of the realist school, such as the naturalistic, socialist, or critical school, and benefiting from them in forming sculptures derived from the artistic characteristics of various objects, from ancient Egyptian to modern and contemporary.
