A proposed program to improve students’ level in the dictation item in the Arabic Solfege course

Abstract

Oriental solfège is considered one of the pillars of Arabic music, as it specializes in teaching the alphabets of the musical language in terms of its rhythmic and melodic components. The solfège subject develops auditory skills, as the sense of hearing is one of the most important senses that God has bestowed on humans, and therefore the student of music in general and Arabic music in particular must It develops auditory skills by training the ear with great precision and translating that into various forms, including immediate notation, which is known as musical dictation. Musical dictation is considered one of the items of Solfege, and its goal is to know the extent to which students distinguish between sounds in terms of their intensity, harshness, and time in terms of length and shortness in relation to other tones. It aims to raise the level of the student’s performance in transcribing Arabic musical notes. However, the student finds difficulty in transcribing the notes correctly. Hence, the problem of the research lies in that there is difficulty in dictating music, which prompted the researcher to devise a proposed method to overcome the difficulties faced by the students. Therefore, the goal of the research was to improve the students’ level in the musical dictation item by overcoming the spelling difficulties they face during dictation, learning about the proposed program, and trying to apply it as a proposed teaching method.
