Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the frameworks in which Egyptian news websites addressed the drug shortage crisis, in order to identify the most prominent thesis regarding the causes, effects, and solutions presented by the study websites, the media frameworks through which they addressed the crisis, and the editorial techniques used. The study adopted The Survey method, with its analytical component, of the content presented on Egyptian news websites regarding the drug crisis. The study also relied on a content analysis tool to analyze the material published on the websites of Al-Masry Al-Youm, Al-Youm Al-Sabea, and Al-Watan between July 1, 2024 and October 31, 2024. This method utilized a systematic comparison to identify similarities and differences between the study websites' coverage of the drug shortage crisis. The study concluded that the study websites focused on proposing solutions than on discussing causes and impacts. At the forefront of these solutions was the localization of the pharmaceutical industry and directing citizens to use alternative medications. The study results also confirmed that the study websites did not focus on a single media frame in addressing the crisis. Rather, it proposed a variety of frames based on the different stages of the crisis' development. The results also demonstrated that the study sites relied heavily on news writing formats in addressing the drug crisis, with the report ranking first at 57.01%, followed by the news at 22.04%.
