Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the reality of the transition of students with mild intellectual disabilities to the labor market from the perspective of their teachers in the city of Riyadh, the extent to which vocational skills are provided in transitional programs, the obstacles that limit the successful transition to the labor market, as well as suggestions that help people with mild intellectual disabilities to successfully transition to the labor market, and to find statistically significant differences according to the variables: programs provided in schools and institutes, gender. The study sample consisted of (83) male and female teachers of people with intellectual disabilities in government schools and institutes at the secondary level. The descriptive survey method was used, and a questionnaire was used as a study tool designed by the researcher. The results of the study concluded that the provision of vocational skills for people with intellectual disabilities in transitional programs from the perspective of their teachers was at a high level with an arithmetic mean of (3.69). The obstacles related to the school environment also came in first place with a high level and an arithmetic mean of (4.13). The proposal to cooperate with employers to identify the necessary skills to teach came in first place with an arithmetic mean of (4.65), as it is one of the most important proposals that help people with mild intellectual disabilities to make a successful transition to the labor market from the teachers’ point of view.
