Abstract

given the scarcity of attempts by violin pioneers and educators to teach Arabic performance styles, the educational curricula for the violin face a significant gap. These curricula heavily focus on Western styles, neglecting the techniques of Arabic performance. This gap highlights the challenges faced by students and performers interested in playing Arabic compositions on the violin. Hence, there is a pressing need for detailed studies that explain and simplify these performance techniques to facilitate their learning and application.
This study aims to bridge this significant gap by promoting Arabic cultural identity through teaching violinists the techniques of Arabic performance, thereby helping to transmit the aesthetics of Arabic music to future generations. The research focuses on examining the key playing techniques used in Arabic music and how to apply them on the violin in a gradual manner that meets the needs of students and performers who wish to learn Arabic performance.
The study examines a sample of 20th-century Arabic music themes and seeks to enhance Arabic performance through the analysis and study of various performance styles. Additionally, it provides a set of exercises and techniques for both the right and left hands, such as the Gliss/Slide technique and Vibrato, to develop the playing skills of students and performers. The study also explains how to appropriately use these techniques in Arabic performance on the violin. Furthermore, it aims to clarify how to correctly perform Arabic Modes on the violin.
