An Examination of The Influence of Social and Economic Factors on Nutritional Awareness Among Students of Technical Hospitality Schools in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate
This study examines the impact of social and economic factors on nutritional awareness among technical hotel education students in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. A sample of 384 students from three hotel schools was assessed using questionnaires on socio-economic status, health status, and a nutritional awareness scale.
Results showed that 76.9% of students had low awareness of general nutritional information, 60.94% had low awareness of health issues related to nutrition, and 66.4% had low awareness of dietary habits. No significant correlation was found between economic factors (income, food expenditure) and nutritional awareness. However, students in the kitchen department had higher awareness levels compared to those in other departments.
Significant correlations were found between nutritional awareness and physical conditions, such as obesity and underweight status, as well as between dietary supplement use and parents' education level. Fast food consumption was linked to economic factors like income and food expenditure. Gender differences showed that males had higher awareness of general nutritional information, while rural students had better awareness of health-related issues.
The study concludes that nutritional awareness varies significantly with parents' educational levels and family income. It recommends creating tailored educational resources and conducting regular health check-ups to enhance students' understanding of healthy nutrition.
